New to CNC, touch off reversed?

Post by PMN »

I'm just getting around to getting my machine set up to cut some parts and I'm having a curious issue. I suspect I've set something up incorrectly but I've been over the manual and software documentation, the CNC Wizard setup, and the options within the CNC Pro Mill software and can't see what I'm doing wrong.

I have my origin set at the back left top corner of my stock in Fusion 360. When I go to touch off and set my axis under part setup, I approach from the left for X and from the back for Y (facing the machine). This should have them intersecting at the back left corner. This appears to coincide with photos of the axis directions on the selection screen to set those locations.

When I start to run the program, the machine jogs in the wrong direction even though each axis goes the correct direction and respond appropriately when manually jogging.

Experimenting a bit, I tried to touch off the stock on the right side for X and the front side for Y, while maintaining the left / back configuration in Centroid, and tool path runs perfectly.

Am I completely misunderstanding the machine's definition of front vs back and left vs right, or is this a configuration setting I have set up incorrectly? Or something else?

Have a look at this: https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 335#p28335

Remember, even though the table is what is moving, all directions are based on the apparent movement of the tool.
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Alright that makes sense. I had it set up as if it was the cutter moving and not the table. Thanks for the help!
