DMM Dyn4 Drive Faults, Noise/Feedback Issues

Post by H&W CNC »

I am having random fault issues, I have purchased three DYN4 drives 10/21/19. I have a Acorn board and there cables but still i am having issues with faults. They are telling me its setting issues but they will just fault out sitting there, some times when there Active High and Low. I just worked through some issues today with Marty and went to finish setup and now i am back to issues. I have random faults and also my X drive now wont hold position and will keep rotating backwards? When it moves backwards my DRO doesn't even change values and it moves a few thousandths or more? I attached my videos and also a picture of my drive settings. I have DMM 86M-DHT-A6MK1 750w Servos, i also emailed DMM to ask them if my Firmware for the drives was good and my cables.

Marty-
When you setup your DMM drives and motors using the DMMDRV software, did you use the TUNING feature of the software, before setting things up in Acorn? To the best of my knowledge i set everything up per the bench test, then after bench test i hooked up to the machine and set things up. Then after moving around a few times i attempted to auto tune but kept having fault issues.

When you get a DRIVE fault, look at the DYN4's are the LED's solid green or flashing red?

I see Drive faults on the 25th but not the 26th.
Please fix your counts per rev in the Wizard and report back whether or not the drive is actually faulting or not by looking at its status LEDs
I would also like to see a screen shot of your INPUTS page from the Wizard

Once your drives are SET correctly, you use the tuning feature in DMMDRV BEFORE moving on to setting up Acorn.

In looking at your report, if you have DMM Drives programmed to 2000 in Gear and Line, you have the counts incorrect in the Wizard:
Axis Label Motor Encoder Lash Comp. Limit Home Dir Screw
revs/in counts/rev. (inches) - + - + Rev Comp
1 X 6.4000 2000 0.0000 0 0 0 0 Y N
2 Y 6.0000 2000 0.0000 0 0 0 0 Y N
3 Z 6.0000 2000 0.0000 0 0 0 0 Y N

They should be set to 8000 not 2000
Fix that first.

They are currently set to 2000 and 2000 in DMMRV, and Acorn Wizard is Set to 8000 in all Axis they have been sense day 1?
So not sure were you are wanting me to change 2000 to 8000 at?

It just faulted out and i have not changed anything. The light is solid this time, most times i remember looking i recall it was blinking. I have attached photos and log.

Re: DMM Dyn4 Drive Faults, Noise/Feedback Issues

My apologies, somehow I must have loaded the wrong report...seeing too many these days!

When you get a DRIVE FAULT message, what do the LED indicators on the DRIVES show? WHICH one is faulted? Only one particular drive? None of the drives? Green is normal, flashing read is a fault. When it is in a FAULT mode, go into DMMDRV and read from the drive, it will give you the status of the drive.

Make sure all the connectors on the drives are tight.

If its only one drive faulting, swap it with one of the other known good drives. See if the problem stays with that axis or follows the bad drive.

I have never seen a SOLID RED LED. Please try and read from that drive using DMMDRV software and see the drive status.
The manual does not have anything for a solid RED LED.
I would move that drive to another axis, mark it with tape and see if the problem follows the drive. If it does, report this to DMM and send them the picture. Tell them what the drive status is when you read from the drive

It is always the Z axis that faults, i have never been able to get the auto tune to work on Z axis. The normal fault i get is Over Current when its just sitting at Z0? I am not sure if there is something wrong or my adjustments are off?

I had random faults in the beginning but my gibs were to tight on X&Y so once i addressed that they haven't messed up at all.

And DMM as kind of shut me off from questions i cant get ahold of them and usually emails are on a 2-3 day response if i get one at all?

Do as I suggest. Swap the Z axis with the X or Y axis drive and see if the problem stays with the faulting drive or stays with the Z axis. IF it stays with the Z axis, I would swap the motor as well and see if the problem follows the motor or stays with Z.

Ok, I will work on that today and report back. I swapped motors already and issue stayed with Z i will swap drives and re program to current Z axis settings and see what happens.

Also my X drive now wont hold position and will keep rotating backwards? When it moves backwards my DRO doesn't even change values and it moves a few thousandths or more? I have DMM 86M-DHT-A6MK1 750w AC Servos, i also emailed DMM to ask them if my Firmware for the drives was good and my cables.

Have any suggestions for this issue? I asked in the original message but don't recall seeing anything. How do you tune AC Servos besides just punching numbers in? Is there any formulas, PID test anything? And what fixes feedback or noise if that would be a issue? i have all filters in the system recommended in DMM and Acorn Schematics?

Acorn is an open loop controller. Unless the Acorn COMMANDS a move, the DROs will not change. If you have bad hardware or noise in the system causing the drives to move without being commanded, then the DROs will not change.

The problem is in your wiring, or in the drives.
Cheers,

Tom
