Load CNC12 without VCP?

Post by mikecowhey »

Quick and simple. Is there a way to load CNC12 without loading the VCP? Just throwing some ideas around in my head for a "quite possibly in the near future" conversion. It is a small machine so there is not a lot of room on the panel. I am thinking using a 4:3 ratio monitor and reusing most of the existing switches via BOB directly under the monitor. It seams overly redundant to have a physical switch and a touchscreen switch less than 6 inches apart. I thought about using a larger format screen, but in order for it to look correct on the mill (correct to me anyway), I would want the monitor mounted in portrait config. I haven't seen any posts of this configuration, I have tried it on my laptop but the VCP does not like being turned on its side.

Wizard, Preferences, VCP Preferences, set virtual control panel OFF. Or Parameter 219 is for VCP Options.

Looks like it might just fit 4:3 then, not sure.

Wizard... That explains why I cant find it. Apparently wizard wont load on the demo version of CNC12, or that it wont load without being connected to a Centroid product. Good to know, if/when I decide to do this conversion I will keep this in mind.

Thank you.

F1/Setup -> F3/Config -> "137" -> F3/Params -> F8Next Page -> F8/Next Page.

Change Parameter 219 to 0.

F10/Save.

yes, this is what we do with our M400 consoles. like marc mentioned you can change the cnc12 parameter 219 that tells cnc12 to launch the VCP to not do that by setting it to zero. :D

alternatively you can also edit the VCP down to just a few convenient buttons that you may want to keep in addition to the USB BOB button/knobs (https://shopcentroidcnc.com/shop/cnc-ac ... rol_panel/) you build out. VCP editing is here, nice and simple for DIY users. https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... manual.pdf

It has been a while since the last time I got into the VCP and messed with editing it, couple of years at least. I don't think you could add any rows at that time, I could be mistaken. Just curious, why not give us the option of having up to 16 column and only 6 or 7 rows. Maybe make it a user option to use the screen in either landscape or portrait mode? For me that's the main reason for going with a smaller screen and reusing a lot of the oem switches. If I could turn the monitor in its side and put the VPC under CNC12 that would significantly reduce the number of switches I would need to reuse. I will add a picture of the control a little later today so you can get an idea of how much room I'm working with.

Mike.

yeah we like this configuration as well. it used to be what we used for many years! (the M20/M40 CNC consoles)

I would like to do this, question is..should we create an entire new CNC12 skin in portrait mode that is dynamic and will support most any resolution? or just make a VCP that is horizontal and continue to use the existing CNC12 UI. or both?

The Centroid VCP is an App that uses the Centroid API, I have made the VCP source code public so you or anyone with programming skills could take the current VCP and edit it to be horizontal.
