Acorn and Closed-Loop Stepper Motor Control

Post by thomas26 »

Hi there,
I bought a hobby CNC machine along with a closed loop stepper motor and controller and my first questions are
1. Are all controllers somewhat similar these days in terms of receiving and sending commands?
2. The controller that came with the motors is a HBS57H and these are push buttons not dip switches!
3. Will these connect to the Acorn card like shown in the wiring video on Youtube?
I was going through the setup process for the setup and then this question came up and I really don't know how to answer it and I thought I'd come here to ask for help! This is my third machine and the first two were plug ins! But I want to take this machine to the next level by using a closed loop stepper motor and a higher end controller but have never wired one and have been asking for help with no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help!

HBS57H should work with Acorn.

For the first DIY CNC I suggest using drivers, that you can find in Centroids schematics:

If you follow the schematics in installation manuals, nothing can go wrong.

It would be more helpful if you'd post a pic of your drive as there are several clones/copies of the HBS57H drives. Even better post a link to the manual for the drive. But as Uwe stated this is a standard, 5V stepper drive and will connect to Acorn using the DB25 breakout board.

I would just like to second Shawn here. Links to manuals help us out a lot. You can even add #page=123 to the end of the link, where 123 is the page number of the information in question.
