PWM not working with Laser

Post by Rut24 »

Hi All,

Wondering if I might receive some help with my laser. I have an Endurance Laser that I piggy backed on my CNC router about a year back. I did have it working well but then didn't use it for a few months. Now I am able to turn the laser on but am not getting any feedback from the PWM? I have changed nothing on the settings or connections since it was working.
The Endurance Laser is very simple, it has a power connection and then 2 wires for the PWM connection. For the PWM connection I used output 2 on the 25 pin connector as prescribed by the instructions. That is all there is to it. Must be a setting I am missing?

Find attached my report; Thanks

Just a quick add-on that I didn't mention in my original post. To test the laser was working properly, I connected a 9v battery to the PWM leads and was able to get the laser to fire at the appropriate amps.

You have velocity modulation on by default so he laser will only fire while an axis is moving.
You can set parameter 816 to "0" to turn this function to off by default.

Thanks for the response but I already tried that. I am just not getting any analog signal from controller to PWM. I even tried running a program that I used in the past but to no avail. It worked great before?? Head scratcher.

Centroid_Tech2 what kind of testing can I do to see if I am getting voltage from the Acorn?

I'm not Centroid tech support, but here's another test you can do to see if the Acorn or the laser is the problem. With the PWM wire to the laser disconnected from the Acorn board, measure the voltage on the PWM pin 25 with a voltmeter or scope when running your program. If you are not getting any output on pin 25, then the Acorn board will probably need to be sent to Centroid for diagnosis and repair. See the Acorn swap-out program on the following link - https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... ranty.html

If the PWM output is working with the laser disconnected, the the problem exists with the laser and you will need to contact the laser manufacturer for assistance.
Cheers,

Tom

PWM output is on DB25 pin14. If you command the laser on at full power you should read 5VDC between pin14 and com/gnd. At half power you will see 2.5VDC between those points.

Thanks for your response. I am curious as to why pin 25? The pwm pin that you are to hook up to is supposed to be pin 14? from what I have read.
