In order to help you with your decision on whether or not to move forward with an Acorn purchase, OR help on which software level would be right for you could you:
Tell us about your machine, what it is, mill, lathe, router, plasma table etc. Picture of the machine would be helpful and of the existing control cabinet if applicable
Ballscrews or leadscrews
What kind of motor mounts and couplings you are using
What kind of motors you are or plan to drive each axis with (Stepper or servo)
What kind of motor drivers you plan or are using to drive your motors
For decisions on which software package to recommend:
What kind of parts you hope to make
The max number of tools you plan to keep loaded and use (How many tools in the tool library)
That will help try and give you some direction on which way to head...
