Hi all,
I’m looking at a retrofitted Bridgeport that uses a Centroid all in one package, with X, Y, and Spindle Z controls.
I’m wondering if it’s possible to add a scale for the Knee-Z the could be used to automatically compensate for knee movement.
My concern is the relatively short Z distance of the spindle and doing tool swaps that require knee movement— I’d love to be able to crank the knee down for a longer tool, but not have the machine lose its place.
Thanks for any input!
Edit:
I think this technical bulletin on adding axii is what I’m looking for:

Re: Second Z-Axis Scale for Knee Mills
short answer yep!
Z axis summing can be employed with a knee and a scale on the knee.
or you can just have the Z scale work like a DRO with the position appearing on the control position read out.
