Acorn Encoder Signal and Power

Hi,
Does Acorn Encoder (Connector P10) can accept only four signals : A+, A-, B+ and B- without Z+ and Z- ?
What is the Max current (mA) that the pin 9 of the connector P10 can supply the external encoder ?

Old post, but figure better to post here than make new.
What is the max amperage draw from the P10 connector? Didn't see anything in the manual.
My encoder draws 300mA, as it's an old encoder from 1978.
Want to make sure this won't hurt the Acorn board.

I would not bother with an encoder that old. However, if you would take the time to post the MAKE and MODEL number of the encoder along with a cut sheet we can take a look.
Automationdirect.com sells good encoders reasonably priced.

Keith,
Where, in the thread that you linked, is the information that gurubikes and metzenw asked for? Specifically, the maximum current or power draw that the Acorn encoder receptacle can supply? I assume it is in there somewhere, or you would not have posted the link; but in a quick scan, I did not see it.

Ok, I got some information on it.
The ACORN is intended to supply around 50mA that is typical of most encoders.
The encoder is supplied by the 5V 1A regulator that powers the BeagleBone. There should be enough power left over for your encoder now. The problem is that a different processing load may increase the BeagleBone power consumption in the future.
So my higher draw encoder is far from Ideal. To be safe I'd have to power it externally.

i'll be more clear on the intent of my post. i was suggesting to post on the encoder thread in hopes to keep all encoder related questions and answer in that thread to make it easier for future users to find information.
the current information has been added to the first post in the thread. happy cnc'ing.

Or buy a newer encoder....
I supposed you could loop the +5V and a COM out of the cable feeding the encoder and run it to the Acorn Power Supply +5VDC/Com Terminals
