Well having Acorn 6 on a mill for only 5 axis is a waste of axes :mrgreen:

So now I have started to upgrade to 6 axis for tool grinding, like 4 facet grinds of drill bits

First test with 5 axis was not as easy to use as I want it to be

If the drill is not on center with A axis you will need different z height for each side and different starting points for X and Y.

That is not as easy peasy as I want it to be. The program schould run with just setting the start point.

So I decided to add a 6th axis for turning the drill bit 180 deg.

This will also open the door to sharpen end mills, making step drills, ect...

And the cool thing is, it can be all done without CAM if you use all potential of Centroids G-Code to make easy to use parametric programs ;)

My head hurts just thinking about the maths for this, but I'm intrigued to see how you get on. Even setting up my universal grinder for tooling is an effort in angles on multiple axes to grind multi-point tools. Keep up the good work on this 8-)

I think we should do a DNA test on Uwe and find out if he is really human. Maybe he is part alien from a much more advanced planet. My head hurts just looking at the pictures he posts of what he has designed in Fusion.

First test with 5 axis only is ok.



But not as fast to setup as I wish, must be under 2min before start grinding.

The 6th axis will solve this :mrgreen:

But anyway it is an ok 4 facet grind.

No this is only basic stuff, some short g-code with variables.

But I wasted some hours to find out that the M6 macro from swissi hijacked variables #101-103 so I got erratic results.

Starting with variables > #110 in my code solved it :mrgreen:

The cool thing is you can do almost anything with Centroid CNC fast and smooth running even without CAM, using only the potential of the g-code implemented in CNC12 :mrgreen:

And I am only scratching the surface ;)

Yes maybe the G-code is basic stuff but the whole picture is not basic. Lots of different parts that all have to come together to get to the "basic stuff". Designng and building the 4th,5th,6th axis ain't no easy basic stuff. Maybe for you but not for me. Programming the 6 axis machine is way above my pay grade.

Your arms are more than 6 axis and easy to control ;)

My way of thinking for simple multiaxis stuff is that I want the machine to move like I would do manually.

So with only 1-2 axes moving together it is pretty simple.

It will get harder to move more than 3 axes simultaneous while making chips or grinding dust :mrgreen:

Just made the junction box for the 6th axis drive with 3D print.

One minute cursing because I bought the Stepper with loose ends, 15min fusion and one hour printing.

I am working on building a Schaublin 125 CCN lathe with a Fanuc cnc and replacing it with an AcornSix controller,
with all new servos on all axes, similar to your lathe setup.
