Acorn homing switches

Hello all,

I am new to the Acorn CNC software and just completed the install on my friends industrial router. I upgraded to version 4.08 today and connected it upto the machine. I have home/limit switches on the Z+, Y-, and X-. I have N.O. switches and have configured them all correctly. I have selected "home to switches". I did bench test the homing sequence and it worked correctly. I have now wired the machine and when I hit the cycle start to begin the homing process the Z axis moves in the + direction, hits the home/limit switch and then moves in the neg direction off the switch and stops :D. Then the Y axis moves in the neg direction, hits the Y home/limit switch and then the cycle stops with a message "Y- limit switch on". I'm not sure why this doesn't behave as the Z axis does. I have not tried homing the X axis. I have no soft linits set at this time and all 3 inputs are configured the same. I'm not sure what I could be missing.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, can you take a picture or screen shot of the Wizard page with the switches and upload it? Also create a report and upload it as well.

Also, see my video on WHY you should use Normally CLOSED limit switches and Estop button contact blocks.
viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1066#p5205

You should setup your softlimits
Here is another video on setting up limits:

Also, Acorn forums are toward the top of the page. Keith may move it up there.

Setting up home switches on any machine tool depends on axis direction and which side of the axis the switch is mounted to.
Some photos of the machine and or a short video showing the movement the you are using for each axis and the location of the switch would go a long way.

Please Include the following with your questions and requests for Acorn technical support.

1.) Attach a current “report.zip” file.
(The report.zip file contains error message logs, change logs, cnc configuration settings and plc program information. The Acorn CNC controller can be configured in an unlimited number of ways. Without this report.zip file we have no idea how you have your particular Acorn system configured. So, without a Report.zip file asking a quesiton without providing us with this information is asking us to guess at what is going on. Be advised without a Report.zip file, it drags out the time it takes to get to resolution or no resoution or help at all! :-) So, please take 25 seconds and create and attach a report.zip file to your forum posts and we will all be happier. If you don’t know what a report.zip file is, see this video here. viewtopic.php?f=60&t=943 and always post a Current report (not one from three weeks ago!) If a report.zip file can't be generated, screen shots of the Centroid Wizard are the next best thing.)

2.) List of the components connected to the Acorn board.. what drives, motors, switches etc. are being used? Attach the Acorn system schematic being followed (or the one you created yourself) that shows these connections. Add photos of these components and the Acorn board installation. Use any one of the free online photo album services and post a comprehensive set of photos documenting your project and include it with your question so we can see what you are doing. Include links or copies of the Spec Sheets, users manuals of the axis motor drives and spindle motor drive.

3.) Post a description and photos of the machine tool and all its cnc controlled accessories. Picture is worth a thousand words.

4.) Post photos or screen shots made with the Windows “snipping tool” or a cell phone showing software messages or whatever you have a specific question about to show us exactly what you are seeing.

5.) Post the CNCPC specs, cpu, ram, hd, OS, Touch Screen used and description of any other method of operator control being used.
