The KBIC-240 is a DC motor control that requires 240VAC input
SURELY your Sherline machine is not connected to 240VAC input is it?
Did you install that KBIC-240?
(The KBIC-240 is not to be confused with a KBSI-240D which is simply a signal isolator)

Where is your KBSI-240D?

OMG No its not a 240V system, The company must of sent me the wrong one OR I selected the wrong one when ordering! OR the tech I spoke to referred me to the wrong part number????????????????????????

SO tell me, please confirm that with a 240V board it would NEVER run with 120V system right?


I looked up the link that was provided buy the tech support agent for KB I spoke to, I called to make sure I got the direct replacement part and guess what turns out she provided the wrong link . I honestly thought I was in good hands and never even saw that it was the wrong voltage.

I have no idea what that drive will do on the incorrect voltage.
I do know when connected to 240VAC, it WILL put out up to 180vdc which will surely burn up the spindle motor because if memory serves, the motor terminal voltage is about 75vdc (confirm with Sherline)

I believe the drive you want with the correct power resistor is a KBIC-120 and if you put the companion SI-5 signal isolator on it, you can remove the KBSI-240D

Great motor is now probably burned up for sure thus makes sense why it would not spin up when connected to the lathe control. More fricken $$$$.

Do not assume the spindle motor is burned up yet.
I suggested you unplug the motor wires from the drive and test them by running a resistance test between the motor leads and from the motor frame to each lead. The meter should read open.

You can also touch the motor leads to a decent size battery to see if the motor spins at all. (A 9v battery is not large enough. A 24VDC or up to 48VDC power supply with enough amperage would work too. Not a small wall wart.

For all you know, the KBIC-240 may not even power up. Not enough AC line voltage

Right makes sense, keep fingers crossed. Gunna take the motor to work see if my bud Dillan can school me on resistance testing.

Marty wanted to ask you about the horse power resistor. Before I purchased this new KBIC board I looked up the spindle motor and found it was a 1/2 HP motor, at least that's what I thought. But now when looking it up can not find that spec in the info on Sherline's site. When I got the new KBIC board and the HP resistor I crossed referenced it against the one on the lathe and the old one. To my surprise they are 3/4-11/2 HP resistors? SO question is, I assume this is the one I should be running? Any input?

WHY the heck is the HP not called out in this specs below?

It is. On the motor snd speed control tab: "Output horsepower: .06 KW (60 W) at 10 oz. in. / 6100 rpm"

You need to click on Motor and Speed Control toward the top of the page upper right

If you bought the KBIC-240 from Galco, call them and see if they can work something out with you.
KBIC-120 with SI-5 is what you need. (As I previously mentioned, buying the SI-5 you won't need the KBSI-240D. SI-5 plugs onto the top of the KBIC-120)

Call KB Electronics, ask for their DC Drive support staff. Tell them what you have, what you did and ask if the drive would even power up on 120VAC.
If not, likely no harm done. But speak with them.

You need to test your spindle motor.....
