Keith told you what to do and with a search you will see, a LOT of people have fought the same battle.

Maybe the older versions of software were more forgiving of wiring it to the header? Someone else upgraded to the latest version 4.6 to 5.3 and now his motors won't turn. If you put the same software version that was on the other machines, and configured the same, it might function like they do.

And not to pile on to your problems but you will have noise issues with a "WOOD" backplane. Component backplanes should be metal and the best option is a galvanized steel backplane.

Wow, OK. I was told this forum was a bit like this. I haven't said anyone's advice is wrong or unhelpful. I'm just trying to narrow things down.

The wooden backplate is inside a solid steel cabinet. It's also recommend to run spider earthing and avoid earth loops specifically because of noise.

Thanks all for your help. I redid the tool paths this morning. All sorted. Not sure what I had wrong.

Steel enclosure or not a wood backplane is NEVER a good idea, even with whatever spider earthing is.

You can lead a horse to water but not make it use a metal backplane.
