Thanks Marty. I do, indeed, want to use Acorn. Can a mod move this or should I just start a new thread there? BTW I've been viewing your YouTube posts with great interest. Thanks for putting all that great info out there.

Once up in the Acorn forums, you might start getting more input. But I would explore the Gecko 320X idea first.

Could you post the complete MCG part number and if there are any numbers on the encoder and manufacturer?
Same with the spindle encoder..

The other one is identical with the exception of the manufacturing code. It's code is 000205 - 0040.

I took the cover facing the front off of the spindle but their was no encoder there. It must be beneath the other cover which requires removing the whole enclosure. I'm not set up to remove that yet but, as soon as I am I'll post the spindle encoder info. I was unable to see any encoder info on the servos. They must be part of the servo its self if that is possible.

I was a bit surprised to see that the spindle cover I removed was just the JET name plate cover flipped over. I believe, of the 9x20 lathes, JET is one of the better made versions. I was glad to see that.

JET? interesting but not surprising I suppose.
I searched for your motors and turned up this thread. The nice bit of info is the pin out on the DB15 cable.

I saw that post earlier but I wasn't clear how to interpret it. It looked like he didn't find the information needed. How do I use the pinout information? I suspect I would program the pins on the acorn to match the pinout?
I'm working on a bench today to get this off the floor. I'll be able to pull the enclosure off once it's up higher. My knees are shot. I can't do much with it on the floor.

The "assumption" is, that one end of the cable connects to your servo motors. The other end plugs into the old motion controller. Until you take pictures of the other end of the servo motor cable I'm just guessing....
Don't cut any cables off. Just label them.

Do you have basic electrical/electronic experience?

Will do. I'm afraid I don't have any experience. I'm as green as they come. I am very eager to learn. I hope I don't turn into a nuisance. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I'm throwing together a temporary bench out of some pallet rack I had outside. Crude but once it's off the ground I'll be able to tear into it. I tried to follow the cable from the servos and it looks like they just lead to the side of that circuit panel.

I hope this isn't a wasted effort. I followed a few more threads from the other gentleman that had one and he couldn't find any identifying markings on the encoders other then what was on the servo. He did have some pics with the end of the servo removed. I'll see if I can find them again. Should have saved them. Thanks.

Starting with Servos is a challenge in of itself.

Any CNC experience?
