Re: AcornSix - Zri Homing with linear scales
Nice workaround, but the problem that #25102 is always -1 is not solved.
On my lathe #25108 is working fine with the Index from the spindle encoder.
Since you also have a working encoder now, can you test if #25108 is set to a value other than -1 after one turn of the spindle?

Hi Uwe, good Point. I checked it and 25108 is working as supposed, all other axis are always -1.

Re: AcornSix - Zri Homing with linear scales
In this case it looks like Acorn6 is handling the encoder input if a scale is setup for an axis differently opposed to a rotary encoder for the spindle.
It would be nice if someone from Centroid could check this out.

Re: AcornSix - Zri Homing with linear scales
So I’ve done the Same thing in my acron powered lathe, using an optocoupler to use the index pules from the encoder to home and it works great but I’m trying to do the same thing on my acron6 mill with the same coupler and in order for it to work I have to set the feed to something crazy slow like .2 ipm a in order of the input to see it and even then it’s not reliable. Got any ideas about what would be the difference?

On some reading heads signal strength can be tuned with a poti.

Re: AcornSix - Zri Homing with linear scales
I guess I should have clarified a little better. I’m not using linear scales, I’m trying to use the index pulse from the motor encoder. Which like I said works great on my lathe but the mill seems to have a problem with.

I am actually hoping to do something similar on a new machine that is still in the planning stages. Still trying to make sense of the correct approach.
Encoder/motor:drive combo are you using? Is the index coming from the encoder directly or through the drive? Finally, what optocoupler are you using?

JMC servos are featuring an Z max. 100mA output that can be directly connected to an Acorn input.

Re: AcornSix - Zri Homing with linear scales
That’s cool. Do you have any experience with them? I just looked them up and they look like pretty nice servos for a reasonable price.

I am using them for spindle and axis drive.
