Mh, really good question.

In my opinion they can be simply black without engraving. The other switches need also some text and i will mill a plate with engraving the text, so no need for it on the knobs itself.

But someone other can find this helpful. Is it possible to change the knobs easily?

Michael

I'd prefer black, so I can put labels above or below the knobs on the panel. It think it'd drive me nuts if the text wasn't perfectly horizontal on the knobs! or maybe black with provided stickers for the panel they're mounted to?

Question about the ribbon cables: how long are they and can they be extended if they're short? I think I'll need about 5 feet of cable to run from the electronics box on the back of my lathe, then below it and up into the front control panel. If they're not long enough, what kind of connectors are you using? I'll look for a (whatever connector it is) to screw-terminal board, or make one, so I can run longer wire.

I vote for the laser engraved version, or why not simple stickers to stick on it depending on the buyer's choice?

stickers are good idea, i'm looking into finding some that would with stand coolant/oil at least for a while but that may be a tall order.

others have mentioned that they are going to be labeling the Switches and MPG's anyways so, its no big deal to also label the encoder knobs either on the knob itself with laser or diamond drag or on the panel that the knob is bolted to.

I'm going with the black knobs for now, which simplifies my ordering/stock/ SKU #/Shelf space and $ outlay so i can keep the USB-BOB price as low as possible. thanks for the input and ideas!

The encoders have 6mm shafts with a D flat. Pretty much any knob you can find sized for a 6mm shaft with a set screw will work.

Hello.

we'll put the connector part number and pin out in the USB BOB manual.

the included ribbon cables are 30 cm long.

if you need to go much longer than that or outside of the operator console you can build your own cables to do that, use five conductor shielded wire and avoid noisy sources (high power, vfd cables, etc) and put the shield on pin 6.

This looks like a interesting add on for Centroids controller and it so happen that I have a place for one, when I converted my lathe I had to remove the 2 mpg's from the carriage of a Cyclematic CT-1118cnc but kept them hoping someday we could reuse them but Acorn 6 came along and the void was answered but now you folks over at Centroid just through another gift the USB BOB. Let the fun begin.
