Re: BETA Volumetric Compensation available to try out.
Excellent! This seems just the ticket to compensate Z for table droop on a knee mill when X is overhanging at the ends of travel.
Cheers,
Tom

Great.
Thanks for this useful function, very handy to get a machine geometric better, if it is too much effort to correct physically.
You are maybe the first to offer this for DIY CNC.
Mituitung dial indicator ?

Re: BETA Volumetric Compensation available to try out.
VC is working on lathe/Acorn6 also, but with small bugs
It will only be active if 3rd axis, in my case C, is set to Y (on), but no comp table for 4th axis Y ist generated.
Also it effects the DRO in G54 and Machine coordinates, so you will not see the position in the G-Code but the calculated position from cnc-z.tab but it works if the spindle stock is out of perfect geometry.

Re: BETA Volumetric Compensation available to try out.
That does not sound right. Also it effects the DRO in G54 and Machine coordinates, so you will not see the position in the G-Code but the calculated position from cnc-z.tab
If I run "G0 X0 Z0", then the move should apply whatever compensation is required per the tables, and it should end with the DRO reading X0 Z0.
If the place that the machine goes to when commanded to go to X0 Z0, is different from the place where the DRO reads X0 Z0, then there are going to be problems with part setup.
When you use F1/Setup -> F1/Part, or G92 (on a mill) or G50 (on a lathe) to zero the DRO at the current position, does the DRO then read zero? If you subsequently command the axis to move to zero, does it move back to the same position where you set zero?

Re: BETA Volumetric Compensation available to try out.
Yes, only a small bug in the DRO.
It moves like the compensation table is set up, but if you have 0.17mm compensation and command X0, the DRO shows 0.17mm at that Z position.
You can see this here at the end of the video.
At least it works to compensate an out of alignment headstock in 2D, but not in 3D space with Y axis on a lathe.

Re: BETA Volumetric Compensation available to try out.
fyi.. we put full 3D VC on the back burner for a bit, as we are devoting all programming resources to all new CNC12 Router for Acorn, USB BOB, CNC12 Router and Plasma for Hickory! along with a Hickory Wizard. When those projects are finished we are going to circle back around to finishing off the 3D VC feature
