Centroid M400 5000 series control
I have a 1997 YCM-40 KneeMill. My hard drive crashed. I recieved some sort of files that were on Floppys from the original shop we bought the mill from. I'm assuming I need to put an operating software on the new hard drive before loading the files. I dont even know if any of this is possible but any direction you could give me would be great. TIA

great machine to fix up if the mechanicals are in good shape.
i'd toss and Allin1DC on it with a new computer and it would be good to go for another ten years.

You'll need to provide more details on your PC/computer for the help to be more effective. I'm in a similar situation and you can read on my steps/progress here: https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=8943jizurda21 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 12:36 pm I have a 1997 YCM-40 KneeMill. If you have an older workstation similar to what I'm working on ( 80486DX2 CPU from '96 ) then you are looking at minimum these options:
1) Do what cnckeith said and upgrade.
2) Attempt to restore what you have ( no guarantee how long the fix might last ). If you choose this path like I have you'll have at least 2 paths:
a) Path 1: buy an IDE to Compact Flash adapter + Compact Flash card compatible with your machine ( for example if it's a x286 processor you may be limited by sizes of CF cards below 512MB ) you can see list of parts here: https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 140#p78140 In the end this didn't work for me even though I believe I had BIOS, CF industrial card size, and the rest of the settings my only guess is because the CF cards I have are either non-8bit mode or something else I don't know.
b) Path 2: buy an ISA adapter with XT-IDE software pre-flashed using the same CF card + IDE to CF adapter ( see process of using those parts here: https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 437#p78437 ). This did work for me and I got a bootable CF card finally you just have to know that you will essentially deal with 2 sets of BIOS screens on your workstation now and may even always have to skip one BIOS because the XT-IDE software essentially adds a 2nd BIOS. I haven't been able to fully configure CNC7 software since I can't locate CNC7 software installation guides.
If you go down the CF path you'll want to get familiar with:
