Digitizing import into Fusion problem

Post by lavrgs »

EDIT - apparently it's a Fusion problem although the posts show a 10X greater factor. but mine is smaller by a factor of 2.67989, which is odd

I recently reduced the system noise which has made digitizing reliable. I have run a couple tests on parts. The first was an odd shaped part and I ran a wall following cycle. I was able to bring the points into fusion but they were not to scale - about 1/2.
This morning I ran a radial sweep of a ring gage (2.1380 dia. - probe found the center and measured 2.1384) I started at the center and it made two passes. The problem is that the data when brought into fusion is not to scale.
I brought the dat in via a csv file and made a 2.1380 circle to results are below. The outer circle is 2.1380 and the inner points are the data
GAGE.JPG
Somewhere between the copying of the.dig file data, and pasting into a .csv and importing into fusion there seems to be a problem. If I plot out the points, into fusion, from the dig file I get a circle closer to the 2.138

Any help would be appreciated

What units are you using in Fusion? What's the diameter of the scanned data?

Inches The dia is roughly .8 vs 2.1380 of thee actual part. The csv import app is a known fusion problem but the scale was 10X

I changed to MM - the radius is 10.136 and the intended radius is 27.1526 the scale factor is .37315

EDIT the solution is a bit painful - I multiplied all the numbers in the csv file by 2.67989...

If you're using the import spline function in Fusion 360, know that the units are cm's and there's no way to change it. You'll have to convert your data from inches to cm's to make it work right. The multiplication factor should be 2.54.

Ahhhh You think I would find that information on the Fusion site. That explains my "calcualated" number. I later found that the dimension of my part that I defined as 1.00 is actually 1.08.
I created a spreadsheet to multiply all the numbers by a variable...I'll check it out

...and the data is offset by 1/2 of the probe diameter...so using the data for cad requires some extra manipulation.

dig data (xyz point cloud) is always center of ball.
use "offset path", or "offset curve" in your cad software to create the actual surface.
