YUASA SUDX-220 4th axis - need help with what motor to buy
I picked up a very nice condition, save for a little surface rust. Yuasa SUDX-220 rotary axis. It has a Electro-Craft E643 (pn 643-034-0120) servo motor on it. I'd like to replace with a servo and drive, I'm thinking closed loop stepper, or one of the new Leadshine setups. I'm not sure what I to buy. The motor mounting bolts are about 68mm square. The shaft is 11mm. I would appreciate any pointers on what motor/drive combo to buy for this. There's about 6.5" of motor depth in the case.
I'm wanting to use this as a 4th axis on my Acorn powered milling machine.

a 750 watt AC servo from yaskawa, delta, sureservo, estun, JMC, Leadshine, Clearpath etc.. would really move that table nicely.
you could get away with a 400 or 500 watt AC servo if you are on a budget.

Keith.. I get what you're saying, but that doesn't get me any closer to knowing what to buy.
I was looking at these based on other mention of them on here.. These motors are not using watts as their power rating.
Is there someone I can pay a few bucks to help me buy the right motor and drive the first time?
Does anyone know of a motor with an 11mm shaft and a 68mm square mounting flange?

I would use a 750W JMC servo and build an adapter to mount it, should be no problem since you have a mill and lathe...

Is there a US seller? I would much prefer to buy from a reputable US seller. My search is showing a lot of stuff in China. Of course internet search is kinda ad driven these days..

So.. “750w AC servo”.. I can bore the coupler for a new motor shaft size and I’m hoping I can make an adapter plate that will also seal up the oil volume. Is it a safe bet that most servos will be sealed around the shaft?
Any specific recommendations on servo and drive?
I don’t want to make the mistake I made with the DMM stuff again.

I would build an adapter with a seal around the 11 to 19mm coupling.
VR Radial lip seals are ok for this purpose.

Re: YUASA SUDX-220 4th axis - need help with what motor to buyu
Why does it need such a large servo? That’s nearly double the shaft size. I don’t know enough about the load and such to make sense of a one horse power motor powering this. There’s substantial gear reduction and there’s no way the existing motor has that much power on tap… is it because it’s a DC servo or something? I’d love to understand this aspect.
