AC Servo suggestions?

Post by carboncymbal »

All,

I'm interested in exploring AC servos for use with the Acorn. I have considered clearpath as well, and may go with them, but It seems like the cost quickly approaches AC servos when looking at the higher power NEMA 34 clearpath motors.

Looking for any suggestions that work with the step/dir inputs from the Acorn. I only need 4 axis, but could make use of 5. I have considered the hickory but right now I'm leaning toward the acorn.

Thanks

I am using JMC AC Servos for axis and spindle, they work very well.

Also searching for a Triac retrofit. Can Centroid output Step / Direction for spindle servo or only 0-10V? I'm concerned that some AC servos wont allow 0-10V.

There is only analog control output on ACORN and ACORNSIX for spindles.

Acorn spindle is 0-10V Acorn 6 -10/+10V or -5 / +5V

So with Acorn you need one Output to change direction, with Acorn 6 not.

But in both cases, you need a servo with speed mode and analogue input. There are lots of on the market with these features.

Thanks. It looks like most if not all offer velocity mode, so this should be fine then.

Where is your preferred place to buy these? Do they have a decent programming software and documentation ? How is the auto tuning?

Currently have some ethercat delta B3A servos. I like that they have STO and allow me to use acorn or hickory controllers, but the price on a 1kw JMC on AliExpress seems really good.

Thanks!

I usually buy from a german vendor. The documentation is ok. Software is connected with serial to micro USB Plug. Auto tuning is simple but a good starting point for fine tuning with parameters. Build in chopper is small. If you want less than 0.5s for deceleration on a spindle drive you will need an external brake chopper. Running them as axis drive with 400000 khz on Acorn 6 is no problem.
