Weird Issue with Intercon Lathe and F/R <self resolved>

Post by Reedfirst »

Hey Centroid and Centrodians!

I have been working on another Acorn project (Lathe) and almost have it up and running.

While doing some tests and practicing in Intercon I came across a weird issue.

If I program a tuning operation in Intercon and set the spin mode to F/M everything work fine as it should. I have programmed to turn a 1" diameter piece of stock to .85 at (Z) -1.5 inches in length. I can switch between CSS and Rpm and it works properly.

However if I have the settings set to F/R (Feed per revolution) my Z axis moves in the opposite wrong direction (toward the tail stock) and seems to reset the part or machine 0 to the last commanded move. It will then move the z axis by the programmed amount in the wrong direction again, apparently reset the Z0 again and continue this process completely ignoring my homing switch as it actually crashed into my homing switch and damaged it before i hit the E-stop. If I stop the program and try and jog towards the head stock (-z direction) the control incorrectly hits my software travel limit. Its as if it is resetting my home switch with every z move.

If I go back into intercon and only change F/R to F/M the same program runs correctly.

Here's a copy of my report.

When looking at the back of the Chuck from the left side of the lathe when commanding clockwise spindle rotation which direction is the spindle rotating?

The Spindle is turning clockwise in both instances.

rotate the spindle clockwise by hand and does the spindle encoder count decrease or increase?

Rotating Clockwise I get A positive number.

It looks like this "+34" etc....

Updated with a better video. Still recording with a camera slightly better than a potato. :?

I'll try and make another one. but in the first part the program runs correctly although I have z and x set far away from the chuck.

The seccond part is where I changed from f/m to f/R and you can see the z axis moving in the wrong direction and what seems like resetting Z 0

Well Crap...... :? I think I figured out what was going wrong.

Apparently feeding at 10 inches per revolution is sending the controller into a fit. I forgot to change that in Intercon when switching over from feed per minute to feed per revolution. I only noticed that when I saw what I was doing on video :o

I went back and set feed per revolution to something more reasonable ".002" and it worked properly.

Oh Well,

Still learning everyday!
