Thanks, I looked everywhere for that!
Should have searched clearance rather than retraction amount.

Lathe - internal threading tool retraction (Solved)
I am trying to cut a thread in a small hole in a timber shaft.
The thread mill only has a small amount of clearance in the bored hole.
When I produce an Intercon program, the cutter retracts too far and ruins the thread.
If there a way to limit the x axis retraction amount?
I have searched the ...

Lathe spindle motor
I have a metal lathe that I converted to Acorn and I use it to build pool cues. I did not change out the motor and I switch on manually, it’s only 1hp.
Yesterday the motor made a strange straining sound and spewed smoke.
I switched it off immediately and let it cool down, then it seemed to work ok ...

How to Zero Encoder Count
My Acorn powered lathe works perfectly.
However, I have a need to index some holes around a circumference.
By taking the lathe out of gear it is easy to turn the spindle to the correct position.
I can see the encoder count via the PID screen, but this seems to always start from a random number ...

Re: cnc barrel rifling machine
Two ways to do it, with a single encoder or multiple.
Here is a video of how they do it at Bartlein with cnc equipment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBkrg7JMGdw
So, I guess you could do it with Acorn and a single encoder but you would need specialized software.

Re: cnc barrel rifling machine
Would not be much help for a button rifling machine, as the hydraulic ram does all the work.
But for a cut rifling setup you could. This is just basically cutting a multi-groove thread inside a tube. The tricky part is indexing the barrel between cuts as these are done with multiple cuts of around ...

Re: Hi from a new member in the UK!
Simon, I think you have a typo there, both say Y axis.
I just built a slightly larger lathe and used 8.5Nm on X axis and 4Nm on Y axis. Both are driven by timing belts and have more than enough power. If you maintain the setup in your pics, it will work fine sized like this.

Re: New Acorn Motor Drive Schematics added to the collection..
For the SOL CL57Y this shows header instead of DB25.
I see this is using 24V signal.
I had it that way, and was advised to move to DB25.
Which is best?
Rob.
