Re: Suggest Acorn should be bundled with a DB25

BINGO, reading the manuals would solve probably half the questions on this forum. It's amazing how many buy an Acorn and don't bother to read anything. :o

The Centroid documentation and schematics are BETTER than ANY other DIY controller out there. :D

Yes and no. I read the manual when I ...

IMHO most problems could be solved by simply reading the manuals.

Re: New StepperOnline CL57T V4.1 set up not turning

If the drive locks when you power it up you don't need the ENABLE line. Most all stepper drives are enabled by default. Very few are not.

As Ken mentioned, if the encoder is wired wrong the drive would fault internally when you try to move it and the red LED would blink on the drive 7 times ...

Re: New StepperOnline CL57T V4.1 set up not turning

Is the switch on the top of the drive for 5v or 24v set to 5v?

Re: Jerky movement

Wow, OK. I was told this forum was a bit like this. I haven't said anyone's advice is wrong or unhelpful. I'm just trying to narrow things down.

The wooden backplate is inside a solid steel cabinet. It's also recommend to run spider earthing and avoid earth loops specifically because of noise ...

Re: Jerky movement

And not to pile on to your problems but you will have noise issues with a "WOOD" backplane. Component backplanes should be metal and the best option is a galvanized steel backplane.

Re: Noise from a Toroidal Transformer

There are some discussions in German forums how to ground the shield, and Joey showed single ending to a common terminal is ok... :D

I've had two instances where I needed to ground both ends of a VFD cable to keep the noise out.

This question of whether to ground one end or both ends of ...

Re: Decent ball screw and linear rail supplier

Now that I've had everything working for sometime, I've decided to upgrade my older basic stepper motors with some new Clearpath closed loop servo's. I've located documentation and it should be an easy plug and play with the cnc4pc c86accp board with my new Acorn board.

The C86ACCP board is far ...

Re: Noise from a Toroidal Transformer

So many builders use unshielded wire on critical connections and then wonder why they have noise and communication issues. Or I've even seen builders use shielded cable and not ground the drain wire. Guys will spend thousands and thousands of dollars and sometimes tens of thousands of ...

Re: Acorn6 ENC1 cable connection to DMM DYN4 DB9 connection ZRI locations?

ZRI+ and ZRI- do not go to the DB9 encoder connections on the Acorn. If you look closely at the diagram you posted it shows the connections. ZRI- goes to the Acorn COM and ZRI+ goes to any of the available input and then you have to program that input in the Wizard to ZRIHomingAll for it to work ...
