Re: Tool change position
So the only thing that seems to work is to add X0 after Z0. Removing Z0 brings all 3 axis where the Acorn software is telling it to, and I guess that works but it's making an additional Y move that really isn't needed. Is there a way to edit the post processor to automatically add X0 into it or do I ...

Re: Tool change position
Hey Keith, I think I did that but when it calls for a tool change it only goes to Z0. Attached is my report from a few minutes ago, am I missing something maybe? My code reads as follows at the end of a tool run for a tool change-
N300 G2 X7.2 Z0.15 I0. K0.2
N305 G0 Z0.6
N310 G17
N315 G28 G91 Z0 ...

Tool change position
I'm sure this is probably something easy but I'd like to set up my X-axis on my gantry to be centered for tool changes. All of my tools are in toolholders so no need to touch off each tool after installing it into the spindle for work. I remember doing "something" awhile back to make the X-axis ...

Re: Smoothing?
I checked McMaster Carr but there’s no way I’m spending $204.32 EACH!!
Check with the local bearing distributors - I use Alpine bearings here in Boston and they are usually quite a bit cheaper.
Thanks for the tip, I called Alpine and spoke with Dave and he was a HUGE help! I'd recommend ...

Re: Smoothing? <resolved, bad ballscrew support bearing>
Got it. Have you thought about using two ballscrews for the y-axis outside of the linear rails?
Dan
No I haven’t, what would be the advantage to that? These Clearpath Servos are insanely strong, I bought nema 34s with 840oz or so power. I’m sure they are WAY oversized now that I have them ...

Re: Smoothing? <resolved, bad ballscrew support bearing>
I honestly think the parts look pretty good as is for being done on a router. My big question is are the dimensions to spec? You will never get the finish that a VMC with a 30hp spindle gets.
So my opinion is if the parts work call it a day and make more parts. I've seen worse finishes on ...

Re: Smoothing? <resolved, bad ballscrew support bearing>
Keith, by all means say it!! I don't mind, I learned something new by this whole thing as in I never knew these bearings could cause so many issues! The only reason I kept going back to the smoothing thing is because I saw different results when I changed settings, so I really thought that could be ...

Re: Smoothing?
Ok, so I re-checked EVERYTHING on this machine and found that there was some play in the bearing block for the ballscrews. I took them apart and ended up shimming between the two bearings outer edges until they felt tight. I re-ran the same program with much better results but still not perfect. I ...

Re: Smoothing?
Have you looked at the following error while cutting the diagonal? I found on my machine I had more following error in some cases with smoothing on. In the end I found that my servos weren’t controlling the axis well enough and I had the exact same quarter decay oscillation you are seeing. This ...
