Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
Progress. I connected the drives, one at a time, to the debug software. I didn't change anything in settings. I just hooked up and spun the drive at various speeds and directions. They all worked first try. Connected back to Acorn and they all worked. I do not know why this worked but it does so ...

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
Was the VFD connected to the outputs when you tested this? No
There should be nothing hooked to the analog output except your multimeter during this test. That was the case. Exactly as shown in the manual.

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
While I wait for Stepperonline to respond, I'll ask the next question that I will have to solve.
What does one do when the the spindle bench test does not give the voltages expected? I did the test as instructed with max rpm set to 3000. The results were:
S500 - 0.52v
S1000 - 1.7 (should be 3.33 ...

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
From an old thread:
The DB25 step and direction signals are rated at 3mA typical and 20mA maximum
CL86T v4.1 manual states :
Ensure the current of control signal is within 7-16mA
Is it possible Acorn db25 is not putting out enough amps to to be seen by this drive?

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
ShawnM,
The drives are set to match CNC12. I have tried 1600 and 4000. I have tried 100k, 200k, and 400k for the max step rate. At 500ipm max set, it should never pulse above 44000Khz during the test.
I cut the cable and pinned out all the wires. They have 0 resistance so I think they are fine.

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
So I cant buy the db9 to usb connector in my town. It will be at least a week before I get one to test the motors with the software.
I did tear everything apart and did a bare bones bench test from scratch. Motors lock but don't move. I swapped evry combo of two drives and two motors - none worked ...

Re: Build Thread Industrial CNC Acorn upgrade
Uwe,
Thanks so much for helping. That software is not on their technical service page and in fact over there, it says there is not a software version for v4.1 so thanks, I didn't think to look on the sales page for the drive.
Gary,
Everything is in the box but I have enough terminal blocks, fuses ...
