Re: Encoder mounting and runout interesting find

I indecated in the part of the shaft supported by the bearings. I turned the part of the shaft the encoder is coupled to. I kept sneaking up on the OD size until I was taking .0005 cuts using the encoder coupler as a go-nogo gauge. It fits as snug as it can without sticking or needing to be pressed....

Encoder mounting and runout interesting find

See what you guys thing of this. I moved the coupler around the shaft trying different positions and .004 was about the best I could get. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbunAKYVxOg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnlYM3JdpH0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ziIJNi9Y1A Where I got the idea to check ...

Re: Are limit switches really needed?

DMM DYN4 nema 34 and 42 motors.

I can write code to the .hom folder like I done for my lathe.
I bet the code will be different since it's not looking for a switch.

Are limit switches really needed?

My next retrofit with be my Fadal mill. The Fadal mill does not use limit switches. It has "parking marks". That's what I call them anyway. These are pieces of sheet metal mounted to a axes and the part it slides against. For example one mounted to the column and one mounted to the Z axes....

Re: Killed my encoder today :(

The bearing where noisy and I could place my hand on the encoder and feel a roughness. The bearing were installed from the factory with some form of loctite. I had preload on the puller and I was warming the shaft with a heat gun to release the loctite. It let go with a "pop'. The puller must h...

Re: Killed my encoder today :(

The shaft is 17mm the bearing OD is 40mm. There are 2 bearing back to back in a machined housing. It’s not a flimsy little 6mm shaft with a pulley mounted on it. The bearing had locktite on them. When the bearing moved it poped and it killed the glass scale. 2FF90596-7C3B-4A32-B4A0-2CDBBC824E8E.jpeg...

Re: Killed my encoder today :(

In the beginning of this video you can see the encoder. I did not mount the encoder. It was factory mounted.
